In my recent attempt to catch "the big one" I have failed twice. I have no idea how to find the fish. We went out trolling for offshore palgics but we where unsuccessful. We were looking for weed lines, color changes, and drop offs. I live in Deerfield Beach, Florida so I asume we can catch dolphin, wahoo and sailfish without traveling 20 miles offshore. We were trolling skirtted ballyhoo and got two strikes. I dont know if were not trolling fast enough, we were between 5 and 6 knots. Any information on baits, presentation and tackle suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Stoneman.

Dear Stoneman:
If it's any consolation, we've been working on extensive video coverage of a world class captain who has successfully fished more places than any of us could identify. Trolling is his strong suit, so we dragged baits out of Hillsboro Inlet for two days and never hooked a fish worth taping on video. It has been hit or miss where you are fishing. There are some good days, but plenty of frustrating ones as well.
You're probably not doing anything wrong.

I can tell you that everyone from Miami to Hillsboro has had to go further out than usual. I do not know why this is, but all the people I have spoken too lately have not had much luck staying in closer than 15-20 miles.
